Why We Are Demonstrating Against the Renewed Bombing War The Clinton Administration is carrying out a new act of lawlessness by bombing Iraqi cities. Hundreds of thousands of civilians will die. Civilians are already being killed and wounded by the thousands. What does the U.S. seek? A government in Iraq that `respects human rights?' Hardly! The U.S. wants to install a puppet regime in Iraq that will serve as a client for U.S. corporate and military interests in the strategic and lucrative oil-rich region. The U.S. government always creates a pretext "incident" to justify its military aggression or CIA subversion plans. It seeks to demonize the targets of its aggression. In the case of the Middle East, this has meant a large dose of anti-Arab racism. People in the U.S. were mortified when a single bomb was detonated by a right-wing terrorist in Oklahoma City. Today, the same politicians and media personalities who tearfully reported the Oklahoma City bombing story on April 19, 1995, blandly support the bombing of Iraqi cities where millions of human beings live. When does the bombing of civilians and cities cease to be considered a terrorist act? Is it when Iraqis die? Is it really OK, is it really legal or moral or justifiable in any sense for the Pentagon to arrogate to itself the right to bomb people in the Third World? The bombing of Iraq has bipartisan support from the Democrats and Republicans, and of course the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The establishment is united on the need to dominate and control the Persian Gulf region and to install a puppet government. It is noteworthy that the Federal government prevented national guard planes in New York from flying to Honduras and Central America with donated hurricane relief so that those planes could be diverted to the Middle East. This is a dramatic example that the U.S. government puts war and militarism above meeting the needs of the people. We are demanding an end to the continuing war against Iraq. Lift the sanctions that have, according to the UN statistics, killed 1.6 million Iraqis. Instead of spending $50 billion each year on the U.S. military domination of the Persian Gulf Region, funds should be spent to provide health care for the 43 million people who are without benefits, for education, housing, healthcare, and jobs. |
Two great nations destroyed. Iran and Iraq. So that our country could have control of the oil resources in the Gulf.

Well, now they have!
The blockade against Iraq violates
numerous fundamental human rights of the people of Iraq, including their
dignity as human beings. Starvation of civilians as a method of warfare
is strictly prohibited by international law. The blockade is a violation
of the Geneva Convention, UN Charter, Constitution of the World Health
Organization, Universal Declaration of Human Rights and Charter of Economic
Rights and Duties of States. According to the US legal code Title 18 2331,
the blockade on the people of Iraq is also an act of international terrorism.

The American government helped Iraq in the mid 80's to oppress and control the Kurdish movement in Northern Iraq. They supplied them with nerve gas to use against Saddam's own people.
They used more tonnage of explosives in Iraq than in the entire Alied Offensive in World War II!
They used more bombs in two days than in the entire Gulf War!
